President Trump called on Fox News to bring back host Jeanine Pirro after her show didn’t air Saturday evening, one week after she questioned whether Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Islamic faith is in opposition to the Constitution.
In a trio of tweets Sunday morning, the president called on his favorite cable news network to not allow the “radical” Left silence on of his most prominent advocates.
“Bring back @JudgeJeanine Pirro. The Radical Left Democrats, working closely with their beloved partner, the Fake News Media, is using every trick in the book to SILENCE a majority of our Country. They have all out campaigns against @FoxNews hosts who are doing too well,” Trump said.
During her show last week, Pirro used her opening monologue to focus on Omar, who recently came under fire for what were seen as anti-Semitic and anti-Israel comments. “Think about it: Omar wears a hijab,” Pirro said of the Muslim congresswoman. “Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”
The monologue prompted swift condemnation from Fox News, which said her comments “do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
“Thank you,” Omar, D-Minn., wrote in a tweet to the network Monday. “No one’s commitment to our constitution should be questioned because of their faith or country of birth.”
Late Sunday, Pirro said her remarks were meant to start a debate.
Still, after some advertisers began to cut ties, Pirro’s show did not air this Saturday. In a statement to Variety, a Fox News spokesperson said, “We’re not commenting on internal scheduling matters.”
In follow-up tweets, Trump called on Fox News to “fight back,” and referred to another host who has been under fire lately, Tucker Carlson, whom the network has stood behind.
“Fox must stay strong and fight back with vigor. Stop working soooo hard on being politically correct, which will only bring you down, and continue to fight for our Country. The losers all want what you have, don’t give it to them,” he added. “Be strong & prosper, be weak & die! Stay true to the people that got you there. Keep fighting for Tucker, and fight hard for @JudgeJeanine. Your competitors are jealous – they all want what you’ve got – NUMBER ONE. Don’t hand it to them on a silver platter. They can’t beat you, you can only beat yourselves!”
Audio clips of Carlson’s appearances on the shock jock’s show from 2006 to 2011 were released over the past couple days by liberal media watchdog Media Matters. In the excerpts, Carlson made sexual jokes about minors, appeared to defend statutory rape, and said women are “extremely primitive.” He also used a term that is insulting to gay people and made comments about race, including questioning the blackness of former President Barack Obama and calling Iraq “a crappy place filled with a bunch of, you know, semiliterate primitive monkeys.”
Carlson has refused to apologize for his remarks, saying he will not bow to the liberal “mob” of critics and has the backing of Fox News.
