It’s been two months since Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s dreamy wedding at Lake Como in Italy grabbed eyeballs, but the newlyweds still continue to make headlines with their adorable social-media PDA and interviews. And now their fans are keen to know if Deepika, like Sonam Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, would end up changing her surname post her marriage.
After Deepika joked about Ranveer changing his surname in one of the interviews post marriage, there has been a lot of speculation.
The 33-year-old actress finally put all speculation to rest by saying that it is not true. In an interview to a daily, Deepika said, “It’s not true. In fact, after that interview I realised that it’s a conversation Ranveer and I’ve never even had. So, we haven’t been like, ‘oh, do you think you should change your surname?’ That [chat about it in an interview] was, of course, a candid joke of sorts. It has never crossed either of our minds. When I was asked about it, I was like, ‘oh, we haven’t even thought about it.”
She added, “Maybe because it’s not important. Also, I’ve worked extremely hard to create my own identity and so has he. So, my question is, ‘why would he have to do that?’ I think what people see of us is a very minuscule part of our entire being and existence. But at the core of it, we are very alike.”
On the work front, Deepika is set to return to the film sets with Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapak, which is a film on acid-attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal. Ranveer, on the other hand, is awaiting the release of Gully Boy opposite Alia Bhatt.
