However, it collected a massive amount on its first day making it the highest first-day collection of a Bollywood film.
Now, according to the report on BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has raked in approximately Rs 28 crore on its second day. The collection has dropped to almost half as compared to the opening day collection. Now, the total collection of the film is Rs 78 crore nett.
The film’s plot revolves around a fictional story set in 1795 when Indian bandits were known as Thugs and India was called as Hindostan. And these Thugs gave tough times to the expanding British Empire, East India Company. Amitabh plays the leader of Thugs, Khudabaksh Azaad who aspires to make Hindostan a free country. Aamir plays the character of Firangi Mallah, a small-time Thug to infiltrate and Azaad’s camp. Fatima is seen as princess Zafira Baig of a kingdom which gets seized by the British. Hence, she along with Khudabaksh swear to defeat the British officer and take over the kingdom again.
Amitabh and Aamir have shared the screen space for the first time and both of them have been saying they are grateful that such a collaboration happened. While Aamir and the director have worked together earlier in ‘Dhoom 3’ which also starred Katrina.
Principal photography of the film began in Malta and it was also filmed in Thailand and Mehrangarh. However, it was put on halt after Amitabh was injured on the set. It was wrapped in March 2018 in Rajasthan.
The music of the film has been composed by Ajay-Atul, with lyrics are penned byAmitabh Bhattacharya.
Initially, it was reported that the film is based on a novel titled ‘Confessions of a Thug’ by Philip Meadows Taylor which tells the story of a gang which imposed a serious threat to British during the expansion of its empire in India. However, soon it was told by the makers that it is a fictional story based on historical events.
