There’s been some serious competition on The Voice this season—and we don’t mean between the contestants. Since the reality show’s inception in 2011, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have entertained audiences with their brotherly bond, sarcastic remarks, and plenty of teasing. But things changed during Season 15 and Shelton has been butting heads with a different coach: Kelly Clarkson.

The singers began working together when Clarkson joined the show last season—and her team won. Now, Shelton admits that they have “a bit of a rivalry.” Nearly every episode, he and Clarkson fight to get the same country artists to join their respective teams.
“I’m not gonna sit out here and talk about the fact that I’ve won the show six times,” Shelton told a contestant during the Blind Auditions, trying to win them over. Clarkson was quick to interrupt.
“Not last year when I arrived. I won!” she reminded everyone. Still, the sophomore coach confessed in a behind-the-scenes clip that Shelton knows how to “push [her] buttons.”
“He knows how upset I get,” Clarkson explained. “He’s like that big brother that gives you noogies—he’s so annoying. I’m really glad I’m not sitting by him.”
Last season, Shelton and Clarkson sat right next to each other on the show. Now, Jennifer Hudson sits between them and often finds herself in the middle of their arguments.
“They have a love-hate relationship in a way. Blake and Kelly. . .are like brother and sister,” she said. “Then the next second, they’re like cats and dogs fighting.”
Hudson might get tired of their constant bickering, but Levine is all for it.
“Seeing Kelly and Blake fight this season was really nice because, it was just like, I got some time off from dealing with him,” he said. “I support it fully.”
