Demonetisation benefitted Narendra Modi, ‘capitalist friends’: Ashok Tanwar

CHANDIGARH:HaryanaCongress presidentAshok Tanwarclaimed on Friday that Prime MinisterNarendra Modiand the BJP benefitted their “own capitalist friends” in the garb of demonetisation in November 2016.
Leading a protest outside the mini secretariat in Fatehabad, Tanwar said it was the biggest scam after Independence and amounted to Rs 7 lakh crore. “This autocratic move continues to trouble the country. Demonetisation was aimed at finishing black money, fake currency and terrorism, but it failed on all these fronts. There has been an increase in the circulation of fake currency and terrorism continues unabated,” the former Sirsa MP said.
He said communications by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and certain documents clearly showed that demonetisation was nothing more than a scam. “(PM Narendra) Modi ji, perhaps, wants to run the country in this manner, but we will let this happen,” he said.
The Congress organised protests against demonetisation in all districts and assembly constituencies in Haryana on Friday. Except for Sirsa and Fatehabad districts, where Tanwar enjoys good following, protest calls evoked mixed response as supporters of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda continued to maintain a distance from him. However, Tanwar said all leaders and their supporters responded to the protest call. “Hooda ji was busy in protests in New Delhi. We have reports from all constituencies and districts about party workers and supporters taking part,” he said.
