Gary Neville and Mesut Ozil immediately sent well wishes to Danny Welbeck after the Arsenal striker suffered a horrible ankle injury.

Arsenal were playing Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates in the Europa League when Welbeck went down in agony.

Welbeck needed oxygen after landing on his ankle and his team-mates watched on in horror as the forward was tended to by medics.

The Englishman was clearly in immense pain and needed oxygen before being stretchered off the pitch.

It seems as though Welbeck has broken his ankle, which will result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Arsenal forward Ozil was rested for the game, but immediately sent his teammate a message on social media.

He said: ‘Oh no … get well soon Danny.’

Arsenal have yet to comment on Welbeck’s condition, and the Gunners were clearly affected by the incident as the first half ended without any real chances created.

Welbeck was making just his sixth start of the season and continues what is a torrid injury history at Arsenal.
